Welcome to Trezor.io/Start®, the official guide to setting up your Trezor® hardware wallet. Whether you're new to cryptocurrency or a seasoned investor looking to enhance your security, you're in the right place. Trezor® is built to protect your digital assets from theft, hacking, and online vulnerabilities.
This step-by-step guide will walk you through setting up your Trezor® device safely and effectively, so you can begin your crypto journey with peace of mind.
Why Choose Trezor®
Trezor® is a trusted pioneer in hardware wallet technology. As one of the first hardware wallets ever developed, it provides industry-leading security for managing your private keys and storing your cryptocurrencies offline.
Unlike software wallets or custodial exchanges, Trezor® ensures your digital assets are only accessible by you. Your private keys never leave the device, and no third party can access your funds without your physical confirmation.
With Trezor®, you maintain full ownership and control of your crypto, making it a powerful tool for responsible and secure digital finance.
What’s in the Box
Your Trezor® device package typically includes:
- One Trezor® hardware wallet (Model One or Model T)
- USB cable (Type-C or Micro USB depending on the model)
- Recovery seed cards
- Start-up instructions
- Trezor® stickers (varies by package)
Make sure your package is unopened and authentic. Trezor® devices are never pre-configured. If your device arrives with a recovery seed or pre-set PIN, do not use it. Instead, contact official support immediately.
Step 1: Connect Your Device
To begin, connect your Trezor® wallet to your computer using the provided USB cable. If using a mobile device, ensure it supports USB OTG and has the appropriate connection.
You’ll be prompted to install Trezor Suite, the official desktop or web-based app used to interact with your hardware wallet. This app enables you to manage your accounts, view your balance, send and receive funds, and access advanced features.
Step 2: Install Trezor Suite
Once your device is connected, install the Trezor Suite application on your computer. You can choose between the web-based version or download the desktop app for added privacy and security.
After launching the application, follow the on-screen instructions to initialize your device.
Step 3: Create a New Wallet
During the setup process, select the option to create a new wallet. You will be guided to generate a recovery seed — a set of 12, 18, or 24 words that act as the ultimate backup for your crypto.
Write down the recovery seed exactly as it appears and store it in a safe, offline location. This seed is the only way to recover your wallet if your device is lost or damaged. Never store it digitally, and never share it with anyone.
Trezor® does not store or access this information. If someone obtains your seed, they can access your funds. Protect it like you would a physical vault key.
Step 4: Set a PIN
Next, you’ll be prompted to set a secure PIN for your device. This adds a crucial layer of protection in case your Trezor® is ever lost or stolen. Choose a PIN that is difficult to guess, and avoid simple patterns.
Each time the device is connected, the PIN will be required before access is granted. After multiple failed attempts, the device will reset, wiping all data to protect your funds.
Step 5: Add and Manage Crypto Accounts
After completing setup, you’ll be able to add accounts for various cryptocurrencies. Trezor® supports a wide range of coins and tokens, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, Cardano, and many ERC-20 tokens.
To add an account, select the cryptocurrency of your choice and install the appropriate app through Trezor Suite. Once installed, you can start sending, receiving, and managing your funds with full transparency.
Step 6: Send and Receive Funds
To receive funds:
- Select the correct account in Trezor Suite
- Click on the “Receive” tab
- Copy and share the public wallet address shown
- Verify the address on your Trezor® device screen before confirming
To send funds:
- Select the “Send” tab in your chosen account
- Enter the recipient’s address and amount
- Confirm and authorize the transaction on your Trezor® device
All transactions must be manually approved on the device, ensuring no unauthorized activity can take place.
Stay Secure with Trezor®
Security is an ongoing practice. Keep your firmware updated, regularly check for official announcements, and always verify you are using authentic Trezor® software.
Advanced users may also choose to enable passphrase protection — an optional feature that adds another layer of encryption beyond your seed and PIN.
Trezor® provides tools, transparency, and open-source software to keep your assets secure and under your control.
